This Quaint Riverside City Welcomes Visitors with its Relaxed Pace and Friendly Atmosphere
Nestled along the bluffs of the St. Croix, Vermillion and Mississippi Rivers, Hastings is authentically reminiscent of a 19th century town. It’s renowned for its fine Victorian architecture and boasts over 60 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The LeDuc Historic Estate, a Gothic Revival mansion, is open for tours and special events throughout the year.
Visitors are welcome to browse our antique and specialty shops and enjoy our town’s charm. Hastings has all the amenities of larger communities, including national retail stores and restaurants plus specialty shops and independent restaurants with exceptional cuisine.
If your pleasure is the great outdoors, try one of the areas challenging golf courses, picnic by the spectacular Vermillion Falls or explore Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center. The City of Hastings scenic bike trail allows impressive views of the Vermillion and Mississippi Rivers or visitors can stop at Lock and Dam #2 for a chance to observe barges and boats as they pass through the locks.
In the lush Hiawatha Valley of the Upper Mississippi, the Alexis Bailly Vineyard was the first to make all its wine from Minnesota-grown grapes. Visitors are encouraged to walk through the vineyards, bring a picnic lunch, play bocce ball, sample and purchase the wines. Tours are available Fridays – Sundays, May through mid November.
Spring and summer bring fun-filled events for visitors to enjoy. A popular event is the Historic Saturday Night Cruise In’s, featuring classic cars, held every other Saturday evening from late May through the first weekend in October. During the month of July, thousands of people come to Rivertown Days, a community-wide festival, which features a parade, music festival, arts and crafts fair, carnival, sports tournaments and so much more. Also, in July, step back in time with the Little Log House Antique Power Show and Pioneer Village. In October, the St. Croix Valley Apple Fest offers a variety of fun for all ages. If you’re a winter adventurer, ski, snowboard or tube the slopes at Welch Village or Afton Alps ski areas. Spring Lake Park and Afton State Park offer wooded bluffs to hike or cross-country ski.
